Only the best! ... And the way there

Art students Wiebke Ammen, Kay Langfeldt and Kathrin Trost developed works for this year's Oldenburg Drawing Festival in Natascha Kaßner's "Picture Stories" course in winter semester 18/19. The 2019 theme is "Drawing and vision. Only the best!...And the way there." The Institute of Art and Visual Culture has been involved in the Oldenburg Drawing Festival, which is organised every two years by the Oldenburg School of Art, since 2011.

For her two-part work "tRAUMzeit" , Kathrin Trost used a smartwatch to document her sleep and dream phases and created a two-part work that deals with the optimisation of the sleep/happiness relationship.

With Wiebke Ammen's drawing installation "Der Weg zum Besten?", memories of formative biographical situations in the various phases of life are brought into connection with experiences in other phases of life (connecting threads). While the lower part of the work tells of the birth and childhood and the life of a daughter, the upper part shows the stages of life still to be travelled.

In his graphic novel "The Altruist" , Kay Langfeldt tells the story of an early retiree who feels abandoned by the world after losing his job due to illness. After a phase of dissatisfaction with the world and himself, in which he perceives all his fellow human beings as egotists, he decides to help people. He wants to work against the (he perceives) selfishness of the general public.
