OLTECH – Career paths in Science, Medicine and Technology - 18 November 2025 at 16:00 online BBB
Guest: Dr. Beena Punnamoottil
Beena completed her PhD in 2008 in Oldenburg in the field of neuro- and developmental genetics.
As part of her PhD she spent 2 years at the Sars International Center for Marine Molecular Biology in Bergen, Norway. Afterwards she went to the Brain and Mind Research Center in Sydney, Australia for 1 year. Upon her return to Germany in 2010, she started as a project manager at a contract research organization, Chimera Biotec GmbH, in Bremen. In 2020, she returned to the UOL as a research officer for medical research. In addition to her work at the UOL, she is involved in pharmaceutical cancer research as VP for global proteomics at the contract research organization Assay Engineers GmbH.
Guest: Dr. Florian Denk
Florian works at Deutsches Hörgeräte Institut GmbH as Head of Research and Studies
The event series is a joined initiative of all the doctoral study programmes of OLTECH and all doctoral candidates are welcome!UMO Connect - Networking for doctoral candidates and postdocs at University Medicine Oldenburg, 19 November 2025 at 12:00 - 13:30 Interkultureller Treff (IKT)
Guest: Dr. Beate Grünberg - The Power of Diversity: Intercultural awareness in teams
This event allows to connect with other fellow early-career researchers at UMO and engage in interdisciplinary exchanges about their experiences during their doctoral or postdoctoral phases. Each meeting begins with a 30-minute expert talk (mostly in English) on a topic relevant to these career stages, followed by informal discussions over a cup of coffee or tea.
Meet The Scientist - on 26 November 2025 at 18:15 on Campus Wechloy, W01 0-015
Guest: Prof. Dr. Karl-Wilhelm Koch
The city group Bremen-Oldenburg of the junior Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (jGBM) is organising the series of talks "Meet the Scientist".
In each talk a scientist from the fields of biochemisty and molecular biology will not only present their research, but give their own perspective on life in academia and answer any and all questions you might have about becoming a scientist. Everyone, from bachelor students unsure if they're even interested in research to PhD students wondering what their next step could be, is invited to join us.
This month, we're excited to announce that Prof. Karl-Wilhelm Koch will be joining us! He has been Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Oldenburg for over 20 years. In his research he tries to uncover the foundations of neurosensory processes like vision and vision-related diseases or the magnetic navigation sense of birds by studying the molecular basis of the underlying cellular signal transduction, especially when calcium is involved.
If you’d like to stay up to date on our upcoming events or get in touch with us directly, you can follow us on Instagram @jgbm.bremen-oldenburg. We’re also happy to answer your questions or hear your ideas via email at bremen-oldenburg@junior-gbm.de. Whether you’re curious about research, looking for inspiration, or just want to connect with fellow students, we’d love to hear from you!Career Insights Online: Microbiology Research & Lab Management - 05 December 2025 at 14:00-15:30
This event series for young researchers and postdocs is organized by the marine institutes in Bremen, Bremerhaven and Oldenburg
Guest: Dr. Antje Stahl
After receiving her M.Sc. degree within the MarMic program, Antje obtained her Ph.D. in Marine Microbiology at Jacobs University Bremen, funded by a POLMAR scholarship of the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI). Afterwards, she worked for more than seven years in a private analytical food and feed laboratory, where she held various positions and areas of work. Since 2023, she has been the head of the Working Group Microbiology at the Institute for Materials Testing (MPA), part of Leibniz-Institute for Materials Engineering (IWT), in Bremen. This position combines both analytical services and research activities.Guest: Dr. Stefan Schimpf
With a background in Geography and a PhD in Sedimentology, which he completed alongside full-time employment, Stefan Schimpf has built his career at the interface of science, laboratory practice, and management. Over eight years at Wartig Nord Analytik GmbH in Hamburg, he introduced a LIMS, established an ISO 17025 quality system, and advanced to co-owner and authorised officer. After several years of self-employment as a consultant and expert assessor for the German Accreditation Body (DakkS), he joined Eurofins, where he built up and led a new asbestos analytics company in Berlin through its first accreditation and market start. Since 2025, he has been Managing Director of Nußbeck Laborgesellschaft mbH, responsible for the Hamburg site and the development of a new laboratory in Berlin. His career shows how curiosity, timing, persistence — and a bit of luck — can open diverse paths beyond academia.Registration: HiFis Indico Platform
