Den größten Anteil an Biomasse haben die Pflanzen mit 82,4%. Nimmt man nur die tierische Biomasse haben die Arthropoden mit 42% mit Abstand den größten Anteil. Dies unterstreicht die Bedeutung der Arthropoden vor allem als Nahrungsgrundlage für viele andere Tiere.
